Last week we had our biggest Hot Club dance so far at the Trotter Building, and despite some technical problems late in the evening, everyone had tons of fun. We saw a ton of new faces, and we unfortunately saw some old faces for the last time. Let’s see if we can keep that momentum going!

Bull City Rumble Record Hop!

Have you heard about this? No? Well here’s the deal:

Tonup NC is hosting a vintage bike and scooter rally to benefit Independent Animal Rescue. When you think bike rally, refrain from thinking of Myrtle Beach bike week. Instead think of our own Laura Windley and all her rocker and hipster scooter-friends.

Hot Club is sponsoring the Record Hop this year. They are getting an awesome DJ out to spin some Early Rock, Rockabilly, Jump Blues, R&B etc. It’s a dance party, so the music will be selected accordingly.

The best part is that Hot Clubers get in free! Yes that’s right, mention that you’re with Hot Club of Durham, and admission to the record hop is absolutely free.

In addition to our classes that started at the end of August we have some awesome classes starting next week too. We are also offering another $40 deal for this set of classes! Beginner Charleston 1 will be just $40 for the whole 6 week series.

Classes are 6 weeks long and include 2 passes to our Thursday night swing dances! Here’s what we have coming up:

Tuesdays 09/07 – 10/12

7pm: Beginner East Coast 1 (Single Step)

The well-known 6-count single step version of swing dancing. As a pure beginner, you can get your swing on quickly with East Coast Swing.

Wednesdays 09/08 – 10/12

7pm: Beginner Lindy Hop 1

The original swing dance, derived from Charleston. Learn the swing out, lindy circle, and fun related variations.

8pm: Beginner Charleston 1 (This month’s half price deal!)

The grandfather of all swing dances! It’s upbeat, fun, and easy to learn. This class will give you the foundations you need to get out on the dance floor ASAP.

No Hot Club Dance 08/19

Don’t fret, our dance will be back next week 08/26. But for this week, 08/19, we will all be joining out friends at the Triangle Dance Studio for the RDU Rent Party!

They will be having the amazing Fire House Rhythm Kings. Don’t miss this!

Wednesday Classes Postponed

Don’t fret about this one either, they will be starting just a week late. We want to give a little more time for people to register, and we want to give our hard-working instructor a little break.

Lindy 1, Charleston 1, and Advanced Beginner Lindy will all start on 08/25 instead of 08/18.

It’s August and we have a new round of classes up and ready to be filled. We also have a one-time special for the upcoming Balboa class. We really want people to learn this amazing dance, so we’re offering it for only $40 ($30 for students). You must pre-register to get this awesome deal.

This is where we really put the “swing” into swing dancing. Triple step east coast will teach you to glide across the dance floor with ease. You’ll learn some of the same material you learned in Beginner East Coast 1, but it will look ten times cooler.

9pm: Balboa 1 (This month’s half-price deal!):

A close-position dance; the alternate universe’s answer to Lindy Hop. Derived from Charleston, created in California. Instructors: Cliff Dyer & Kat Milby

Come out to Hot Club’s “No Particular Holiday Swing Bash!” I’m calling it that just to keep in the spirit of the last few invites.

We’ve been having tons of fun at Hot Club Thursdays. Last week was our biggest week yet at the Trotter Building, so lets keep the momentum up.

House DJ – Nicole “has Soul” Deinert will be beginning and ending the night with your favorite tunes, and that French one that she likes so much (which is likely one of your favorite tunes, too).
