Private Lessons
Cliff Dyer started swing dancing in 2006, when he got dragged to a dance by a friend while he was living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was immediately hooked, and since then, has hardly gone a week without dancing. He has a great love for the arts of connection and physical communication, which he has been playing with in one form or another since studying Aikido from 1996 to 2000.
Cliff has taught private and group lessons in Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Charleston in Durham, Albuquerque, and El Paso. He has competed at the Harvest Moon Melee, and the Eastern Balboa Championship, both in 2007. In 2008, he won third place in the Strictly Balboa competition at Lindy Focus, dancing with Laura Windley. Above all, he believes dancing should be (and is) fun.

Having attained a 93.5% level of bad-ass, Chris continues his yearly pilgrimages to lindy hop mecca Herrang, Sweden each year. Additionally, Chris is the most well-educated dancer in the area on swing-era jazz, his chosen specialty in his Musicology program at UNC. Chris is famous for helping dancers put more “bork” in their swing outs.

Private Lessons
Training includes: Numerous Lindy Hop workshops and camps around the country with many names you probably won’t recognize (yet), dozens of private lessons in the Alexander Technique, hundreds of bodywork sessions, nine months of obsessive ballet classes, and a smattering of tap, hip hop, pilates, break dancing, yoga, Feldenkrais, African dancing, “jazz”, and modern.
Other qualifications: My mom used to put on Donna Summer albums and watch me bop around the house when I was little. When my Grandma found out I was going to be “a big swing dancer” one day, she bought me a gigantic mirror to practice in front of. I’m also a licensed Massage Therapist.
If you see me sitting alone at a dance, come up and say hello! I’m just shy and easily overwhelmed by people.
Though I most love the rush of simply performing, competition is important in Lindy Hop, too. My most recent placements: ‘10 Jack ‘n Jill finals at Savoy Swing Jam; ‘09 Southern Belle Swing Bash, 1st place Jack ‘n Jill with Hurley Francois (video).
